WW1 Brass Gun Shell Casing Armoury Militaria

British QF 3‑pounder (47 mm) inert / drill rounds, each with a brass case

Dated 1924. Lot Number 11

These 3‑pounder guns were widely used by the Royal Navy (on ships and as AA / submarine deck guns) from the late 19th century through WW1 and into the inter‑war years for training.

The headstamp reads:

“3 PR III”* – Quick‑firing 3‑pounder, Mark III (star) case*.

Broad arrow (↑) – British Government acceptance mark.

“N” – Naval service.

“1924” – year the case was made.

“Lot 11” – production lot.

The inner primer cup is marked “RL 22 57” etc., indicating manufacture at the Royal Laboratory, Woolwich (RL) with a primer dated 1922.

• Other scattered initials are inspectors’ / makers’ marks and mark numbers for the primer (No.2 Mk VI) and the shell.
