About this piece
Victorian architectural mantel clock retailed by Mappin & Webb. Designed in the Greek Revival or Neoclassical temple form, featuring a prominent triangular pediment roof, an intricate classical frieze, and a structure flanked by pairs of fluted columns. Crafted from polished black slate giving it a heavy, monumental presence. It houses a late 19th-century mechanical twin-train French movement (often by notable makers like S. Marti or Japy Frères) striking on either a bell or a gong. The dial is explicitly signed by the famous British luxury goods retailer, Mappin & Webb.
