Follows & Bate "Magic Marmalade Cutter", dating from the 1930s.

Designed to clamp securely to a table or worktop, this ingenious cast iron kitchen tool was intended to shred orange peel and segments for marmalade making, dramatically reducing the time and effort required when preparing large quantities of fruit.

Manufactured by the Manchester firm Follows & Bate, the cutter is a wonderful piece of early domestic kitchen equipment and a fine example of the labour-saving devices that became increasingly popular during the early 20th century.
