Framed document - an authentic papal parchment granting an Apostolic Blessing and Plenary Indulgence at the Hour of Death, issued by Pope Pius XII for Mr. and Mrs. Dougal, dated November 3, 1950, and signed by Archbishop Joseph Migone.
It is a traditional papal indulgence (also known as the Apostolic Pardon) meant to remit temporal punishment due to sin at the point of death, provided the recipient is truly contrite and invokes the Holy Name of Jesus if unable to confess.
It features a hand-tinted portrait of Pope Pius XII hand-gesturing in blessing, surrounded by vignettes of Roman basilicas, ornate gold calligraphy, an embossed papal seal, and the official signature of Archbishop Joseph Migone as Almoner of His Holiness.Historical Context: Issued during the Anno Sancto MCML (Holy Year 1950) Jubilee proclaimed by Pius XII, during which such indulgences were frequently requested by or bestowed upon Catholic families.
