Royal Doulton Large Character Jug - Anne Boleyn D6644

Anne (1502-1536) became the second wife of Henry VIII in a secret ceremony performed in January, 1533. Their marriage was officially sanctioned in May by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Thomas Cranmer, and she was crowned Queen on June 1, 1533 in Westminster Hall. Unable to produce the son Henry VIII desired Anne was imprisoned in the tower of London on false grounds of adultery. She was beheaded, with a sword on May 19, 1536 in a courtyard of the Tower of London. (The modeller use of an axe for the handle was incorrect.) Anne Boleyn was the mother of Queen Elizabeth the First, born September 7, 1533.

Designed by Douglas V. Tootle, Anne is dressed in black and grey. The handle is formed of an axe and chopping block.
