This item is a vintage military wood and metal chest, early 20th century with original zinc lining. The lid features stenciled lettering, including what appears to be a name and rank. 
Similar trunks from this era were used as secure storage for personal items during military service. 
This particular chest belonged to Major R.H Haver OBE who saw extensive service in the Royal Engineers During WW2 also possible staff duties in post war Bombay.
Great decorative piece with handy storage and seating combined.
