From the magazine page dated 1956 on the reverse (translated):
‘Stalin in the attic’ The portraits of the generalissimo, works that brought fame and honors to the artists who created them, have disappeared or are about to disappear completely from the museums of the Soviet Union. The staff of the galleries received the order to remove the paintings depicting the effigy of the dictator who died in March 1953. The paintings operation is part of the offensive unleashed in this period by Nikita Khrushchev, general secretary of the communist party against the colonists who for many years he had been exalted as father, teacher and leader of the Russian people

I ritratti del generalissimo, opere che diedero agli artisti che le avevano create fama e onorificenze, sono scomparsi o stanno per sparire del tutto dai musei dell’ Unione Sovietica. Il personale delle gallerie haricevuto l’ordine di rimuovere i dipinti raffiguranti l’effigie del dittatore morto nel marzo del 1953. L’operazione quadri fa parte della offensiva scatenata in questo periodo da Nikita Kruscev segretario generale del partite comunista contro colni che per tanti anni era stato esaltato quale padre, maestro e duce del popolo russo.
