Huge French Original 18th Century Painted Pier Mirror With Ornate Wood, Gesso & Gilt.
Very large, original pier mirror with an ornate, gilded frame and an off-white wood and gesso background. Some age related marks & chips expected with a piece of this age. 
The mirror is tall and narrow, originally designed to fit between windows or on a pier wall, often placed above a console table. 
The frame features detailed carvings, including scrolls, frills, and stylized decorations, typical of the Rococo and Regency styles. Nature-inspired elements like vines and acanthus leaves are also present. 
Pier mirrors, popular in the 1800s, were designed to maximize reflection in narrow spaces. They often feature silver backing, unlike modern mirrors with aluminum backing. Older mirrors, especially those from before the 19th century, are more valuable due to their rarity and condition.
