Chinese Elmwood Baby Bath 19th Cent With Removable Bath & Storage Base

Chinese Elmwood Baby Bath 19th Cent With Removable Bath & Storage Base

Chinese oriental baby bath dating from the late 19th century.  The elmwood is banded in brass to ensure its strength and to hold together the wooden sections. Same method as coopering for barrels. Very rich, red patinaed finish.

The bath consists of two compartments: the large oval reservoir is meant for holding water while the upper oval bath would hold the baby to be bathed.  There are two carved handles to allow the bath to be carried.

It is made beautifully, of excellent quality and in good condition.
