Unlike the most common version which has a green glass shade (known as an Emeralite lamp), this specific clear, ribbed glass shade style is considered rarer and offers a more modern or glam aesthetic while maintaining the traditional structure. The original banker's lamp was patented in 1909 by Harrison D. McFaddin and became a staple in banks and offices, valued for its concentrated task lighting.
